Anganwadi Centers act as pre-primary schools in rural India. They also provide supplementary nutrition to children in age group of 0-6 years, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

Anganwadi, a first formal school for the children of rural area, play its part in the preparing the children of 3 to 6 age group for the Primary School. It is expected that children in this age group will learn basic reading, writing skills (alphabets and numbers) and express their skills through songs and dance. However, it has been observed that Anganwadi Workers, though working hard with these toddlers, most of them lack the required skills to teach.

Realizing the need, Lupin Human Welfare and Research Foundation (LHWRF) initiated the training programme for the Anganwadi workers from ICDS Project of Sabbavaram and covered two mandals viz. Parawada and Sabbavaram. Training programme was inaugurated by MLA from the area Shri. Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy. This training programme was organized for two days in a month and 175 Anganwadi Centers have been covered. This Preschool training program was visited by ISSNIP (ICDS System Strengthening Nutrition Improvement Project) World Bank team of Andhra Pradesh along with local CDPO`s, in Visakhapatnam district. The progress of the preschool training programme at Anganwadi centers is monitored by the district & project level ICDS officers, Mandal Development officers, and President and Secretaries of the respective Grampanchyats. This training programme has helped to improve the quality of the education in Anganwadi Centers from Parawada and Sabbavaram mandals of Visakhapatnam district.

Testimony

"Teaching the kids at this early age was never an easy job. Most of the time it was very hard for us to get them focused. Now it has changed. Learning has become fun and kids are actually participating with joy. Kids will be kids but we can tell you they are doing better. During the training we were taught many new methods of teaching and how to improvise as per the age group. It was about teaching the way kids like it. It was a very informative training. We are very thankful to LHWRF for making this happen."

Thank you!!!
