Ramesh, 70 year old poor farmer from village Mahalpurchura can now clearly read the newspaper thanks to LHWRF Bharatpur, which supported cataract operation free of costs. There are many elderly people like Ramesh whose liveshave gained new meaning with cataract operations.

Lupin Foundation has pledged to make Bharatpur a cataract free district. LHWRF has initiated campaign in the district in collaboration with Dr. Shroff Eye Care Institute of Mathura to achieve this goal.

Eye checkup camps are organized at the tehsil headquarters. Patients above 50 years of age and with poor eyesight are screened and patients needing cataract operations are identified. Health check-up for these patients is also carried out where they are screened for blood pressure and diabetes. If these ailments are diagnosed, patients are given medicines to control diabetes or blood pressure.

Before the camp day, identified patients are taken to Dr. Shroff Eye Care Institute at Mathura where they get free stay and meals. They are operated free of costs. Medicines, and specs are also given free. Transportation is provided by the Lupin Foundation. Post operation follow-up is also taken by the doctors.

During 2016-17, twenty one camps were organized and 1926 operations were performed. Kumher tehsil has been declared as cataract free and efforts are on to make Rupwaas tehsil cataract free.
