Building better
and sustainable
farms
Gularam, a 52-year-old farmer from Dongarpada, struggles with low farm income due to erratic rainfall, poor irrigation, and lack of market access, forcing his son to migrate for work at the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in Pune; with limited education, pending crop loan approval, and little knowledge of goat farming, he continues to face financial hardship.
When Gularam felt he was losing hope, an awareness session by LHWRF field staff changed his path.
Through the DBJUP intervention, he received two years of training in improved farming, resource management, and livelihood skills. The program enhanced water access by extending pipelines, deepening and securing a nearby well, and provided four goats and vegetable seeds—helping him diversify income and strengthen year-round farming.
Smiling with pride, Gularam shared that after joining the DBJUP intervention, his annual household income doubled due to higher agricultural output. The support ensured steady year round earnings, healthier soil, and greater resilience to climate challenges.
With his increased income, he bought a motorcycle for his family and repaired his home, clear signs of the Gangurde family's progress.
After DBJUP, Gularam gained financial stability and the joy of supporting his family.
He now dreams bigger and aims to expand his farming activities, driven by passion, grit, and a constant desire to grow. He believes learning never stops and each new skill will strengthen his livelihood, and with confidence and determination, he is steadily building a brighter and more prosperous future.
