Sudhir Dhauskar from Ibrampur of Pernem block in Goa was an ordinary farmer, cultivating traditional crops on his farm. In 2016, LHWRF staff organized village meeting and provided information about vermi-composting and organic farming. Exposure visit for farmers was organized to vermi-compost unit in neighbouring Maharashtra. Sudhir was part of the team. Seeing the benefits and discussion with the farmers, he decided to take up the new venture.

Sudhir Dhauskar then set up a vermi-compost unit on his farm. The Agricultural department of Goa provided 60% subsidy for civil works and ICAR, Goa unit provided training and earthworms. Lupin Foundation helped Sudhir with roof material for the shed. Sincerity and hard work paid rich dividends for Sudhir. Farmers from neighbouring areas started purchasing vermi-compost from him. He get average rate of Rs. 12/- per kilogram. Sudhir sells around 2.5 tons of vermi-compost per month. After deducting all costs, he earns net profit of 25 thousand per month.

Now Sudhir has become youth icon in Pernem block and is promoting organic manure. Sudhir receives many visitors, including farmers and government officials. Taking inspiration from Sudhir, other farmers as well as two schools have set up small vermi-compost units in their premises.
